Write Screenwriting: format a script with Tab and Return
Screenwriting mode lays your script out in standard script format as you type. Each line is an element: Scene Heading, Action, Character, Parenthetical, Dialogue, Transition, Shot, General or New Act. The current element shows in the Element type menu and at the bottom of the screen.
Return starts the next line and picks the usual next element: after a Scene Heading comes Action, after a Character comes Dialogue, and after Dialogue comes Action. Press Return on an empty line to step back, for example empty Dialogue turns into a new Character.
Tab changes the element of the line you are on, in this order: Scene Heading, Action, Character, Parenthetical, Dialogue, Transition, Shot, General, New Act. Shift+Tab goes back through the list.
You can also set the element directly. Alt plus 1 to 8 sets 1 Scene Heading, 2 Action, 3 Character, 4 Parenthetical, 5 Dialogue, 6 Transition, 7 Shot, 8 General. Cmd or Ctrl plus 1 to 8 does the same where your browser lets the keys through. Cmd or Ctrl plus Return inserts a new scene, and Cmd or Ctrl plus D makes dual dialogue.
Scene headings, characters, transitions and shots are turned into capitals for you, and a parenthetical gets its brackets. Undo and Redo are in the toolbar, and Cmd or Ctrl plus F opens find and replace. Zoom goes from 50% to 200%.
